Lighting Up Lives Program
What is Lighting Up Lives?
In June 2021, the Coconut Coalition of the Americas (CCA) launched the Lighting Up Lives program to support and provide resources for coconut farmers in the Philippines by providing them with solar panel lighting to offer light at night. In 2022, Lighting Up Lives provided nutritional support, school supplies and protection from the elements to the children of coconut farmers in various regions throughout the Philippines.
In 2023, Lighting Up Lives is focusing on the community of Brgy. San Francisco in Tagkawayan, Quezon Province to provide education, tools and resources to increase the farmers’ income and productivity, ensure food security, and encourage preventative health practices.
“Coconut farmers are essential to the coconut industry,” said CCA Executive Director Len Monheit. “Lighting Up Lives aims to uplift the entire farming community, not just individuals, through education, resources, and continued support.”

The CCA Continues to Honor Our Statements
The Coconut Coalition of the Americas (CCA), a leading voice of the coconut industry, does not condone the use of trained monkeys for harvesting coconuts. CCA members do not approve of or engage in this practice, nor do they source from suppliers who utilize trained monkey labor.
As part of the CCA Membership, within our code of conduct, all members fully commit to sustainable, responsible and humane harvesting practices. Members who discover that their supplier engages in the practice of using trained monkeys will shift sourcing and cease business arrangements with that supplier. Should a member be found to be in violation of these practices, that member will have their membership suspended until such time they can confirm compliance.
Your supplier(s) may have specific position papers from their respective company(s) and we encourage you to ask them for their written statements for your records.
Please contact CCA Executive Director Len Monheit at len@coconutcoalition.org with any questions.
